Here on the East Coast we’re slogging through the first big snow of the season. When the mercury hovers this low, it can get pretty chilly in the studio. This has us thinking about what kind of cozy, moveable extra layer we’d like to be wearing. We can say this much: we don’t want to sacrifice style. We’ve always loved the look of the classic ballet wrap top, and it turns out our favorite workout wear lines do, too. Several of them have come out with chic new versions this year. They’re elegant alternatives to a hoodie and versatile pieces that you can easily wear out of the studio and keep on for the rest of the day.
We’ve rounded up our favorite updates on this dancewear classic, perfect for taking the chill off your workout. Don’t forget to wrap up, because baby, it’s cold outside!
Abi and Joseph
The Ballet Wrap Top from Aussie Pilates wear line Abi and Joseph is one of the company’s signature pieces. In fact, A&J offers several variations on the ballet wrap theme, available here. Choose among long sleeved, short sleeved and loose-fit options made from merino wool, viscose, and Italian lycra, in a variety of muted, elegant colors.
Choose a sustainable fabric option while you maximize comfort with prAna’s stretch bamboo Satori wrap. Tie in front when you’re feeling bohemian or wrap around to tie in back when balletic is what you’re going for. The bamboo is moisture-wicking, and a variety of colors including black, “winter” white, espresso and plum are available here and here.
New in stores this month, Lululemon’s Sport Cardi was designed with warmth in mind, and is made from bamboo and tencel. Cute little gathers at the collar allow you to adjust the openness of the neckline.
We Pilates is offering up this cozy-looking 100% Organic Supima® wrap, made of soft luxury cotton. The We wrap can be tied five different ways, and has a side slit for a true ballet-style wraparound. Choose from white, black, stucco or majolica blue.
Tao Freedom of the Body
Tao Freedom of the Body is offering up a few different variations on the wrap. This Tao Wrap is an edgier version with an easy-fasten button in the back for a hip-flattering assymetrical look. It’s a meryl nylon rib knit, which Tao claims is not only super-soft, but moisture-wicking and antibacterial. The Tao Wrap is available in your choice of black, soft white or gun metal, as shown.
