NewWave Pilates Apparel Designs for Men and Women

On him: Pilates Tech Pant and Long Sleeve Crew Neck. On ladies: Classic Tank and NewWave Pant with Pockets.Men who’ve worried about finding appropriate Pilates wear, fret no longer. There’s a new clothing maker out there with your needs in mind. NewWave Pilates Apparel is taking aim at the virtually untapped Pilates menswear market with a combination of high-tech, green fabrics and design specifically configured for Pilates movement. NewWave also has a full line of women’s clothing, too.

BASI Pilates™ founder Rael Isacowitz and Audrey McCann, owner of apparel line Pilates by Bonnie, teamed up to launch NewWave last year. The inspiration for the menswear comes straight from Isacowitz’s own personal experience. Though he’s had a decades-long Pilates career, he never quite found clothing that fit the right formula.

“Over the years it has been difficult for me to find appropriate clothing for Pilates, both to teach and practice. It was either dance clothing, athletic clothing, yoga clothing, martial arts clothing…none felt right,” he says.

McCann concurred, pointing out that most men’s active wear is either extremely loose, like basketball clothing, or extremely tight, like cycling wear.

Men’s Short Sleeve Compression Workout ShirtUnder Isacowitz’s direction, NewWave’s clothes are designed to hit that not-tight, not-loose sweet spot and “stay with the body” as it moves. Men’s pants, for example, accommodate better articulation at the knee. “The idea is that you don’t need to worry about adjusting your clothes and you can focus on the exercises,” McCann says.

And there’s one other important detail: comfort. The fabrics are breathable and soft; “feel-good,” as McCann described them.

They hope that the line will help the Pilates industry grow. NewWave is available online at NewWavePilates.com and is soon to hit shelves at BASI-affiliated studios.

this seems close to ridiclous...simly another way to market an idea that clothes make the difference. Many men do not even resemble the 'slim models' chosen for the chic website.

I got out of the pilates clothing business years ago for a variety of reasons, but mainly because the financial commitment was greater than the market share. Men's wear is a tough market and it's hard to compete with the big dogs so I wish you a great deal of luck.

Don't let others discourage you. Clothes do make a difference, otherwise it wouldn't be a multi billion dollar industry. It is also an industry that thrives on appearance. I am pretty sure that a marketing campaign featuring a beefy guy with a beer gut, probably wouldn't sell many clothes.

Seems it is a multi-billion $$ buz. simply because it thrives on apprearances...largely superficial peeps that drive this industry. Get ready for my clothing line YardWear Grunge...ugly sells too!

Maybe lisa has the beer gut. I'm a 6'-0" 200lb construction worker and I think Pilates is the greatest workout I've ever found. I'm really tired of my sweats and pants working their way up and interupting my excersize. I'm happy somebody is providing a solution

Wow really great. Mostly I have seen the good collection for girl only. Seriously it is the thing most of us noticed that there is less wear collection of men for Pilates. But your step towards this to initiate something innovative is appreciable.
